Dear Clients and Families,
The COVID-19 pandemic continues to present challenges to everyone in the community. I want to thank all of our clients as well as their carers and family members for their cooperation as we all try to prevent the spread of this terrible disease. We especially appreciate you letting us know as soon as someone in your household has been tested for COVID-19. This is another invaluable measure that helps limit the potential to spread COVID-19.
Due to the Government’s gradual easing of restrictions, we have reviewed our policy on staff wearing PPE (personal protective equipment).
Staff now must wear a mask only if you or your carer requests them to. Of course, staff may wear a mask if they so choose.
As always, staff must follow UNIVERSAL PRECAUTIONS to prevent the spread of infection. This includes
- Hand hygiene and respiratory etiquette.
- Aprons where there is direct client contact.
- Gloves MUST be worn when touching blood, body fluids, secretions, excretions, mucous membranes and nonintact skin
- Protective eyewear where there is risk of splash contamination e.g. when emptying catheter bags
Although restrictions are being lifted, the risk of COVID-19 transmission remains high. Staff continue to be reminded of their obligations:
- If they are unwell DO NOT come to work
- If they have cold or flu like symptoms, arrange to have COVID-19 test and isolate until results are received.
- If a member of their household or a close contact is being tested for COVID-19, they should not come to work until they have a negative result.
- If the client is unwell, they must report symptoms to office immediately.
